Estates open Memorial Day – Free to Veteran’s and their families
Mr. Edison in his lab, Sunday and Monday
FORT MYERS, FL (May 23, 2007)- The Edison & Ford Winter Estates will be open on Monday, May 28, 2007 and is offering FREE admission to United States Veterans and their families on Memorial Day Weekend – Saturday, Sunday and Monday – May 26th , 27th and 28th .
The Estates is honoring the men, women and their families who have served our country. Free admission includes a tour of the newly restored homes, the historic botanical gardens, the Estates Museum, and Edison’s Research Laboratory.
In addition, visitors will have the opportunity to see Thomas Edison in his lab on Sunday and Monday (Memorial Day) from 12 PM – 4 PM. Guests will tour the lab with the inventor, ask questions, take photos and have a one of a kind experience in the original lab where Edison searched for a source of natural rubber from the plants and trees he located at his Fort Myers estate.
Veterans must present a VA identification card or their DD214 papers to receive free admission. Current servicemen and women may also gain free admission by presenting an active military ID.
The Estates is open daily 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. and is an official project of Save America’s Treasures at National Trust for Historic Preservation and a Florida Historic Landmark. For additional information call 239-334-7419 or visit the web site at www.efwefla.org.
